Microsemi Announces New LX1701 Amplifiers

July 29, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

Microsemi Corp. (Irvine, CA), a manufacturer of discrete semiconductors and power management integrated circuits, announced its newest generation of Class-D audio amplifiers, a CMOS design targeted for LCD TVs, desktop monitors, cell phones, PDA’s and other handheld or portable audio applications.

The LX1701™ is a Class-D amplifier that can drive up to 3 W of mono output into 2 Ohm speakers, or 2 W output into 4 Ohm speakers, providing full 20 Hz to 20 kHz high fidelity audio, with a total harmonic distortion of less than 1%. A low quiescent current consumption of 2 mA results from a proprietary output modulation design that also enables filter-less operation in many applications. A wide 1.8 to 6 supply voltage range allows the LX1701 to be used at almost all power supply or battery conditions.

The LX1701 is delivered in a low-profile, surface-mountable, 16-pin, lead-free, MLPQ package measuring 4 mm² x 1 mm. It is available for immediate sampling and delivery, with 10,000-quantity pricing at $0.88.
