Microchip Announces TC2117 LDO Regulator

September 16, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Microchip Technology Inc. (Puyallup, WA) announced its new TC2117 fixed-LDO positive regulator, which offers a high-performance solution in a space-saving package for designs requiring lower supply current, lower dropout voltage and smaller output capacitor.

Applications include battery-powered equipment; consumer electronics, such as cellular phones, PDAs, pagers and laptops; networking equipment; instrumentation; linear post-regulation for SMPS; 5V to 3.3V linear regulation; battery-management circuits; and core voltage sources for FPGAs, PLDs, DSPs and CPUs.

The regulator provides a 600mV dropout voltage at 800mA, and draws 800µA supply. These features extend battery life, increase power efficiency and allow for small input/output voltage differentials. The 1µF output capacitor and small SOT-223 footprint minimize component cost and reduce board space.

Pricing in 1,000-unit quantities is $1.01 each for the device in a three-pin SOT-223, and $1.29 each for the one in a three-pin DDPAK.
