July 14, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

Micrel Semiconductor Inc. (San Jose, CA) announced two new single-chip, RadioWire FSK transceivers suitable for battery-powered systems with a standby current <1µA. The new transceivers are able to transmit and receive FSK data at any rate between 2.4Kbps and 128Kbps, output power is 10dBm (maximum), and receiving sensitivity is -105dBm.

The MICRF500 operates from 700MHz to 1GHz, and the MICRF501 ranges from 300MHz to 600MHz. The MICRF500 covers the European 868MHz ISM frequency and the US 902MHz to 928MHz band. The MICRF501 is suitable for the 433MHz European ISM band and the 300MHz ISM band in the US.

The MICRF500 and MICRF501 are manufactured in a 44-pin LQFP package. Samples of both devices are currently available, and production quantities are stock to 13 weeks ARO. The MICRF500 and MICRF501 are both priced at $6 each when purchased in a quantity of 1,000 units.
