June 18, 2000 by Jeff Shepard

MGE UPS Systems (Costa Mesa, CA) has introduced its Pulsar Esprit single UPS and Esprit Power Cluster redundant UPSs, a new development in high-availability power protection The Pulsar Esprit Series models offer an optimized combination of availability and reliability required by demanding users in telecommunications, broadcasting, the Internet, industrial automation and building automation. The Pulsar Esprit Power Cluster is ideal for mission-critical applications requiring 99.9-percent uptime. In addition to true redundancy, this new UPS system further enhances total power availability with infinitely expandable battery options and a suite of Internet-grade monitoring and communications.

MGE claims the Esprit Power Clusters provide maximum versatility with its comprehensive features. The Esprit can be used in a wide range of applications, including call centers, broadcast population facilities, control systems for automated prototype processes or small assembly lines, research and laboratory environments, smart buildings and more. With a selection of power ratings from 3kVA to 13.5kVA, the units are designed to protect clusters of 3 to 15 critical servers with associated key peripherals such as storage and backup devices. Based on modular, scalable building blocks, the system configuration is simple, providing virtually unlimited backup time. With options for redundant batteries and chargers, maximum reliability and the rapid recharging of even the largest battery bank is ensured. The Pulsar Esprit is designed with the Internet in mind and incorporates XML web-based management. Using XML tags to perform automatic actions, users now have the ability to remotely monitor the UPS via the Internet.

Prices start at $1,699 in a single UPS configuration, or $3,398 for a fully redundant power cluster.
