MGE UPS Systems Debuts Next-Generation Pulsar Ellipse UPS Line

February 20, 2000 by Jeff Shepard

MGE UPS Systems (Costa Mesa, CA) recently announced the next-generation Pulsar Ellipse UPS line, which offers backup power for PCs and workstations in packages up to 50 percent smaller and lighter than any comparable UPS in its class. The Pulsar Ellipse is available in power ratings from 300VA to 1,200VA. The line is claimed to be ideally suited for maximizing the availability of PCs, workstations and small servers used in call centers, manufacturing cells or prototype lines, research and development laboratories, warehousing and distribution centers, and film and television production studios.

The units are designed to have enough battery power to keep typical PCs running for 10 to 60 minutes or more depending on configuration. Other features of the line include built-in surge suppression, data line protection, USB or serial communications, extended battery life, user-replaceable batteries, remotely switchable receptacles on specific models, and free power-management software.

This line is the first UPS in its class to comply with Microsoft's new HID device-driver protocol, according to MGE UPS, and will feature seamless integration with Windows 2000. Pricing for the Pulsar Ellipse product line begins at $119 in volume, and includes a two-year warranty that includes battery replacement.
