MGE UPS Intros Topaz S3 2kVA Inverter

June 20, 1999 by Jeff Shepard

MGE UPS Systems (Costa Mesa, CA) has introduced a new inverter, the Topaz S3 2kVA, which features pulse width modulation technology for clean reliable power. The Topaz S3 inverter is intended for telecommunications, Internet providers, building security, and networking applications, which demand reliable uninterrupted ac power from a dc course. The modular inverter features a standard, built-in hot-swap inverter module for maintenance bypass allowing easy unit removal without interrupting the critical load. Other features include over-load capability, field selectable voltages and frequency, and an INSTON Static Transfer Switch (STS) that enables the inverter to operate in either on-line or standby mode for energy savings. The INSTON STS also allows the system to be configured in a cascade/isolated-redundant mode, which will increase the availability, reliability and MTBF of the system. The Topaz S3 Inverter's overload rating is up to 125 percent continuous, and overloads of 220 to 300 percent can be accommodated for up to four cycles. Input voltage is +/-48V nominal with a 60V option, output voltages are 100,100, 115, 120, 200, 220, 230 or 240V (field selectable) with output frequency of 50 or 60 Hz (field selectable). The compact, lightweight Topaz S3 2kVA Inverter measures 2U by 17 by 19 and weighs only 39 lbs. It is UL, CUL and CE listed, FEE Class A certified and comes with a one-year warranty. Priced from $2,414 each, depending on options, the S3 inverter is available with a delivery lead time of stock to one week (4 to 5 days). OEM volume discounts are available upon request.
