MGE UPS Debuts New Comet 40kVA Model UPS

September 03, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

MGE UPS Systems (Costa Mesa, CA) introduced its new Comet 40 kVA UPS to its Comet family. The new three-phase Comet offers the advantage of a centralized power source while allowing individual control of servers over the network. The Comet is ideal for facility networks, process control and other critical networks demanding very high efficiency such as those used in the healthcare, financial and insurance industries.

The on-line design of the microprocessor-based Comet UPS ensures clean, reliable power even in harsh electrical environments, with input-to-output efficiency ratings as high as 95 percent. The Comet delivers sinewave output that offers isolation and power correction. MGE's 40kVA to 150kVA Comet UPS family delivers power protection and power

conditioning, while offering up to 95 percent efficiency.

The Comet UPS system consists of a

solid-state inverter, rectifier/battery charger, a continuous duty static switch, and internal maintenance bypass switch and battery plant with advanced battery management.

The advanced on-line Comet UPS features a pulse-width modulated inverter design using IGBTs. The Comet provides self-testing,

self-diagnostics and is firmware controlled to notify the user during all UPS events and eliminates the need for manual adjustments. It is rated for 100-percent step loads, which are the most severe load switching conditions.

The Comet 40 kVA supports all standard input voltages, 208V, 480V, 220V or 600V. Both adjacent and free-standing battery cabinets are offered for flexible support of diverse applications. In its standard configuration, the Comet UPS measures only 66in x 32in x 33in for the new 40 kVA model.

The new Comet 40 kVA UPS is UL-1778 and CUL approved. It conforms to FCC Part 15, Subpart J, Class A, and meets IEEE

587-1980/ANSI C62.41. Available now, pricing for the Comet 40 kVA starts at $30,270, depending on options.
