Maxwell Debuts New PC5-5 Ultracapacitor

February 25, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

Maxwell Technologies Inc. (San Diego, CA) introduced its new PC5-5 ultracapacitor, which measures only 17mm x 23mm x 9.5mm and stores 23J of energy at 5V for immediately available high-power delivery. The PC5-5 is suitable for consumer electronics, wireless transmission, medical devices, automatic meter readers and many other applications requiring a pulse of power. It is also suitable for automotive subsystem applications, such as those used for power locks and windows.

The PC5-5 ultracapacitor is able to store energy for immediate availability, making it an ideal source of backup power. The ultracapacitor provides extended power availability, allowing critical information and functions to remain available during dips, sags and outages in the main power source. In addition, it can relieve batteries of burst power functions, thereby reducing costs and maximizing space and energy efficiency.
