Maxim Presents New MAX1565 Power Supply IC

March 13, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

Maxim Integrated Products Inc. announced its new MAX1565 power supply IC, which integrates high-efficiency, step-up, and step-down dc/dc converters with three step-up controllers into a 5mm x 5mm thin QFN package, enabling it to be used as a power supply solution for digital still and video cameras. The converter's switching frequency is adjustable up to 1MHz, while its input voltage range is 0.7V to 5.5V. The MAX1565 is screened for the extended-industrial temperature range.

The five-channel power management IC is claimed to provide the necessary voltage outputs required in most digital camera designs. Its internal switch step-up/step-down dc/dc converters include synchronous rectifiers to provide 95-percent conversion efficiency for the logic and core supplies. The devices provide complete power for the 3.3V logic, and the 1.5V or 1.8V core supply. The three step-up controllers supply power for a white LED or CCFL backlight module, positive and negative CCD biases, motor drivers, and positive and negative LCD biases. All supplies have independent on/off control.
