Maxim Integrated Products Announces MAX1722/23/24 Converters

August 09, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Maxim Integrated Products (Sunnyvale, CA) announced the new MAX1722/23/24 step-up dc/dc converters. Available in five-pin SOT-23 packages, the converters feature a 1.5uA quiescent supply current. They operate from one to two alkaline or NiMH cells, or a single lithium-ion cell, and are suitable for use in applications that require low quiescent current and small size.

The MAX1722/23/24 converters feature built-in synchronous rectification. All three feature a 0.5ohm n-channel power switch. The MAX1722/24 converters also feature noise-reduction circuitry. The family offers different combinations of fixed (MAX1724) or adjustable (MAX1722/23) outputs, shutdown and EMI reduction.

All three converters feature up to 90 pecent efficiency. No external diodes or FETs are needed. The devices have +/-one-percent output-voltage accuracy. They have up to 150mA of output current, with a 0.8V to 5.5V input-voltage range. The converters may be used in pagers, remote controls, remote wireless transmitters, personal medical devices, digital still cameras, single-cell battery-powered devices, low-power hand-held instruments, MP3 players and PDAs.
