MacroDens line of dc/dc power modules

November 14, 1999 by Jeff Shepard

Ericsson Energy Systems (Sweden) announced it has extended its MacroDens line of component level on-board dc/dc power modules with a wide-input model at a new lower output voltage. The PKF 5510 is a 3.3V, 1.5A device and is available in both through hole (PKF 5510 PI) and SMD (PKF 5510 SI) versions, with full power available for any input voltage between 18V and 72V. According to Ericsson, the PKF 5510 is less than 8.5mm high and delivers 80 percent efficiency at 27V input, and is designed to provide maximum flexibility for 24V, 48V and 60V distributed power systems. The device is designed to requires no heatsink to deliver full 5W output across the input range. The PKF 5510 has MTBF of 4.9 million hours and has comprehensive EMC compliance, such as EN 55022, along with remote control facility and fast 2rms ramp-up time. All units receive burn-in and are automatically laser trimmed to 3.3V. Output voltage is adjusted between 2.8V and 3.8V using a single resistor. The converters also feature built-in thermal protection, short circuit protection and current limiting, and are designed for parallel connection where additional power is needed.

In quantities of 500, pricing for the PKF 5510 will be $25.75 each and stock samples are currently available.
