Lucent Technologies Announces New Flooded Lead-Acid Battery

May 28, 2000 by Jeff Shepard

Lucent Technologies (Murray Hill, NJ) announced a flooded lead-acid battery with a 25 percent longer life for telecommunications central offices, mobile switching offices and cable head-end applications. The expected 25-year life of the battery is five years longer than comparable flooded lead-acid batteries on the market today, and the 1,680Ah Victory Class premium battery can also be used in other applications for extended back-up power such as small utilities, rapid transit and UPS systems.

"Longer battery life can translate into an overall cost savings for our customers," said Steve McCluer, marketing manager at Lucent Technologies. The resulting long-term savings in battery removal and disposal costs could be significant. According to McCluer, the Victory Class battery has among the lowest life-cycle costs than any battery in its class because it eliminates the need for periodic specific-gravity measurements or retorque of battery posts. In addition, water replenishment is required only every few years, and is the first rectangular battery to feature the battery-post technology design of the Lucent Round Cell battery.
