Lucent Intros Cabinet Power System (CPS) 4000 PLUS

May 23, 1999 by Jeff Shepard

Lucent Technologies (Dallas, TX) announced their new advanced Cabinet Power System (CPS) 4000 PLUS which they claim will offer customers 10-20 percent more power with remote monitoring and control functions. It can be used for central office installations or geographically isolated wireless outside plants. The CPS4000 PLUS is intended to allow customers to remotely monitor alarms, control plant voltage and perform battery tests. The power system also offers an extended operating temperature range of -40 to +75 degrees C, at least 10 C higher than average power systems for these applications, according to Lucent. The CPS4000 PLUS is fully backward-compatible with Lucent's CPS4000 which was introduced in 1994. Existing customers who power their networks with Lucent's CPS4000 will be able to purchase the upgraded system components for their current systems without re-qualification. The CPS4000 PLUS and its upgrade packages are expected to be available in summer 1999 in either 24V (wireless) or 48V (wireline) configurations.
