LTC Offers New LT3430 Switching Regulator

October 06, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

Linear Technology Corp. (LTC, Milpitas, CA) announced the LT3430, a constant-frequency, step-down switching regulator that includes a 3A internal switch. The LTC3430 can operate with an input range of 5.5V to 60V and can deliver up to 2.75A of continuous output current at output voltages as low as 1.25V, making it suitable for telecom, automotive and industrial applications.

The device's high-voltage architecture enables efficiencies as high as 90 percent, even in low duty-cycle applications. The LT3430 switches at a constant 200kHz so external components are small. Alternatively, a sync pin allows external synchronization from 228kHz to 700kHz with a logic level input. It is available in a thermally enhanced TSSOP package enabling optimum heat dissipation within a small-/low-profile solution footprint.

The LT3430 utilizes a high-efficiency 3A, 0.1Ohm switch, with current-mode control. Special design techniques and a new high-voltage process enable high efficiency over a wide input-voltage range, while its current-mode topology enables fast transient response and loop stability. Patented circuitry maintains a peak switch current over the entire duty cycle range. The supply current is only 2.5mA during normal operation, while shutdown current is reduced to 25µA.

The LT3430EFE is available from stock. Pricing starts at $4.95 each in 1,000-piece quantities.
