LTC Intros LT3464 Converter with Schottky Diode

March 13, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

Linear Technology Corp. (LTC, Milpitas, CA) announced its new LT3464, a high-efficiency, micro-power, boost converter with an integrated Schottky diode and output disconnect transistor. The LT3464 utilizes a current-limited, constant off-time, switching topology with an 85mA internal switch to deliver output voltages up to 34V. It can deliver up to 8mA at 16V from a 3.6V input, making it suitable for hand-held devices, and the input-voltage range of 2.3V to 10V makes it suitable for single-cell or dual-cell lithium-ion batteries as well as multi-cell alkaline or nickel-metal hydride chemistries.

The LT3464's small package size, high level of integration and use of tiny surface mount components yields a solution size of less than 40mm². The internal Schottky diode reduces both size and assembly requirements while the internal PNP transistor disconnects the output load from the input during shutdown and provides output short-circuit protection. An auxiliary reference input allows the user to override the internal 1.25V feedback reference with any lower value, allowing for full control of the output voltage during operation. Burst Mode® operation enables an ultra-low supply current of 25µA, while shutdown current is less than 0.5µA.

The LT3464 is available from stock in an eight-lead, ThinSOT package. Pricing starts at $1.50 each in 1,000-piece quantities.
