Low-Power LDOs Designed for use with Low ESR MLCCs

February 13, 2019 by Paul Shepard

The XD6506 from Torex Semiconductcor is a new series of voltage regulators optimized for automotive applications. The series achieves ultra low supply current, 0.8μA (typical) and consists of a reference voltage source, an error amplifier, a current fold-back circuit, and a phase compensation circuit plus a driver transistor.

Target applications include car navigation systems, automotive audio, engine control units and other automotive equipment. The output voltage is selectable in 0.1V increments within the range of 1.2V to 5V using laser trimming technologies.

The series is also compatible with low ESR ceramic capacitors, which give added output stability.

The current limiter's fold-back circuit also operates as a short circuit protection for the output current limiter and the output pin. Furthermore, the CE function allows the output of the regulator to be turned off, resulting in greatly reduced power consumption.

Summary of features and specifications:

  • Maximum output current is 150mA
  • Low power consumption of 0.8μA
  • Stand-by current is less than 1μA
