Linear Voice Coil Motors Offer Low Inertia and Zero Cogging

March 28, 2020 by Paul Shepard

Moticont has added two miniature linear voice coil motors to its LVCM family of Linear Voice Coil Motors. Sharing the same physical dimensions, each is just 1.000 in. (25.4mm) in diameter and the housings are 1.500 in. (38.1mm) long. As every application is different Moticont offers two motor in the LVCM-025 Series of Voice Coil Motors.

The LVCM-025-038-01 features a continuous force of 2.5 lbs (11.0N) and a peak force of 7.8 lbs (34.7N) and the LVCM-025-038-02 features a 1.000 in (25.4mm) stroke, whereas, the LVCM-025-038-01 features a stroke of 0.37 in. (9.5mm ) and the LVCM-025-038-02 features a continuous force of 16.4 oz (4.6 N) and a peak force of 51.9 oz (14.4N).

Whether it is a longer stroke or a higher force that is required for an application, each of these highly efficient, clean, miniature brushless dc servo motors has high acceleration / deceleration, low inertia, and zero cogging, making them suited for: Assembly, sorting, laser machining and drilling, haptic feed back, packaging, sampling, work holding and clamping, scanning, laser beam steering and filtering, wafer handling, and medical and pharmaceutical applications.

Both the LVCM-025-038-01 and the LVCM-025-038-02 feature very high accuracy and repeatability when operated as a dc servo motor in a closed servo loop. Each linear motor also features a 10-32 UNC-2B threaded mounting hole in the housing and two 6-32 UNC-2B threaded mounting holes in the coil end on 0.50 in. (25.4mm) centers for easy integration into new and existing applications.

A complete plug-and-play system including an encoder and servo controller is also available.
