Linear Technology Unveils LTC3411 Regulator

May 13, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

Linear Technology Corp. (Milpitas, CA) announced its new LTC3411 high-efficiency, 2MHz, synchronous buck regulator in a MSOP package, which can deliver up to 1.25A of continuous output current at output voltages as low as 0.8V. The LTC3411 operates from an input voltage of 2.5V to 5.5V, making it suitable for single-cell, lithium-ion, multi-cell, alkaline or NiMH battery-powered applications. The user-adjustable switching frequency of up to 2MHz allows the use of small, low-cost capacitors and inductors less than 2mm in height for space-constrained applications.

The LTC3411 uses internal switches with an RDS(on) of only 0.110 to deliver efficiencies as high as 96 percent, and utilizes a low-dropout 100-percent duty cycle operation to allow output voltages equal to VIN, further extending battery runtime. The no-load quiescent current is only 60µA, and less than 1µA in shutdown providing optimal battery life.

The LTC3411 is available from stock in a 10-lead MSOP package. Pricing starts at $3.20 each in 1,000-piece quantities.
