Linear Technology Unveils LTC1983-3 Inverter

September 23, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Linear Technology (Milpitas, CA) announced the LTC1983-3, the first 100mA regulated charge-pump inverter in a SOT-23 package. The 900kHz operating frequency and low-profile (1mm) SOT-23 package provides the smallest solution size for generating a regulated –3V supply from a single-cell lithium-ion battery.

The extremely small circuit requires only two external ceramic capacitors and makes this device an ideal solution for supplying low-power bias voltages in portable applications such as LCD’s, digital cameras and other portable equipment.

The LTC1983-3 utilizes an inverting charge-pump topology switching at a fixed frequency of 900kHz. The ultra–low 25µA quiescent current and zero-current shutdown further enable the long battery life required in most battery-powered portable applications.

The LTC1983-3 is available from stock in a five-lead SOT-23 package. Pricing starts at $1.75 each for the LTC1983-3 in 1,000-piece quantities.
