Linear Technology Offers LTC3703 DC-DC Controller

February 01, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

Linear Technology Corp. (LTC, Milpitas, CA) introduced its new LTC3703, a 100 V, 95-percent efficient, dc-dc step-down, synchronous controller for high input voltage power supplies. The LTC3703 eliminates the need for a transformer and a current sense resistor. The single-inductor design not only withstands input transients up to 100 V, but also reduces the effect of input supply transients on the output with its patented line feed-forward compensation.

The LTC3703 is suitable for conversion of 36 V to 72 V backplane power to 12 V or 5 V intermediate supplies in telecom and servers, as well as power supplies in automotive and industrial systems susceptible to 90 V surges. The LTC3703 features a resistor-adjustable switching frequency from 100 kHz to 600 kHz; a 0.8 V reference voltage that is ±1 percent accurate; a high bandwidth (25 MHz) error amplifier and patented loop compensation; and a user-programmable current limit with an external resistor.

The LTC3703 is offered in a 16-lead SSOP and 28-lead SSOP package. The IC is rated for the -40 °C to +85 °C industrial-grade temperature range. Pricing for 1,000-piece quantities begin at $3.10 each.
