Linear Technology Intros LTC3204 Charge Pump Doublers

January 30, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

Linear Technology Corp. (LTC, Milpitas, CA) announced its new LTC3204 charge pump doubler in a 2 mm x 2 mm DFN package, which features low-noise, constant-frequency (1.2 MHz) operation, and generates a regulated boosted output voltage of 3.3 V from a minimum input voltage of 1.8 V (2 AA cell alkaline or nickel-metal hydride) at output currents up to 50 mA (LTC3204-3.3), while the LTC3204-5 produces 5 V output from a minimum 2.7 V (lithium-ion battery) input at currents up to 150 mA.

The LTC3204 features automatic Burst Mode® operation at light loads, which provides a low supply current of 48 µA and helps extend battery run time. A patented constant-frequency architecture offers both low input and low output ripple to minimize switching noise. The LTC3204’s 1.2 MHz switching frequency enables the use of tiny external ceramic capacitors.

The LTC3204EDC-3.3 and LTC3204EDC-5 are available in the six-lead DFN (2 mm x 2 mm x 0.75 mm) package. Pricing for 1,000-piece quantities starts at $1.50 each.
