Linear Technology Announces LTC4251 Controller

September 18, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Linear Technology Corp. (Milpitas, CA) announced the LTC4251 hot-swap controller, which comes in a tiny six-lead SOT-23 and includes multiple stages of current limiting to protect -48V applications from different types of supply faults.

The inrush current is actively limited, allowing boards to be safely inserted into a live -48V backplane. The device fits within a dc/dc converter module, and also provides the protection necessary for high-reliability telecom and networking applications.

The device integrates three stages of programmable current limiting, programmable over-voltage and under-voltage monitoring, and a programmable multi-function timer. A single-sense resistor sets the current limit thresholds. A resistor divider sets both the over-voltage and under-voltage thresholds. A single capacitor sets the timing.
