LEM Components Unveils HX Family Transducers

October 03, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

LEM Components (Milwaukee, WI) introduced the new HX family of Hall-effect open-loop current transducers. The HX Series is the latest product developed in the compact and low-cost product range for small current measurements.

The standard ratings are from 3A to 20A. It exists in two power supply versions: a dual-supply ±15V and a single-supply +12V to +15V. A special version with two isolated primary windings is also available for 5A and 10A ratings. Linearity errors are within ±1 percent. The ac test voltage (50Hz, 1 minute) improved to 3kVrms, and a clearance/creepage distance of more than 5.5mm make this transducer suitable for isolated current measurements in the lower and middle power ranges.

The HX Series Hall-effect current transducer weighs only 8g, and requires a small mounting area of 15mm x 19mm. It is particularly suitable for dc side current protection and motor control in frequency inverters, phase current control in ac/dc servo-drives, current regulation and display in UPS and switched-mode power supplies, and current control and short-circuit protection in industrial equipment.

The HX Series has current changing at rates of more than 50A/ms. The response to a step current is as fast as 3ms, which is critical in short-circuit protection for IGBTs. Special construction allows 5.5mm of clearance and creepage distance without the need of potting. All materials are UL94V0 certified. The transducers are CE marked in accordance with the European Directive 89/336/EEC and satisfy the local EMC regulations.
