Lambda Expands SM Series with SM30 Converter

July 13, 1999 by Jeff Shepard

Lambda Electronics Inc. (Melville, NY) has expanded its SM Series of surface-mountable power supplies with what is claimed to be the first 30W dc/dc converter that is lightweight enough to be handled by pick-and-place equipment. With the addition of the 30W module to its SM Series, Lambda has expanded the its line of dc/dc SMT converters to include 36 models with single and dual output configurations ranging from 10W to 30W. The SM30 features a low-profile (0.4" high) surface mount package that facilitates tight card pitch requirements. Its square design (2.5" x 2.5") is said to ensure compatibility with existing SMT pick and place equipment, thereby minimizing machine error. The SM converter also features a 10ms start up for hot-plug conditions, remote on/off for complex system timing requirements and 24V or 48V nominal inputs for wireless/cellular and central office telecom applications. The SM30 also powers telecommunications systems in broadband distribution, networking and switching applications, as well as industrial process controls and LAN/WAN equipment. The SM30 meets UL1459 and BS6301 telecom applications approval and is the only 30W converter on the market to have ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute) for European communications systems. The converter also holds UL1950, EN60950, CE Mark and CSA 22.2-234 safety agency approval. Typical pricing for the SM30 Series is $40 each in OEM quantities.
