Lambda Expands PS Family with PSD Series DC Converters

May 22, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

Lambda Electronics Inc. (San Diego, CA) expanded its ultra-compact, lightweight PS family of dc-dc converters with the new dual-output, RoHS-compliant PSD Series, which are designed for use in a number of applications, ranging from factory automation to communications equipment. The PSD models produce twice the output power as comparably sized dc-dc converters, allowing designers to upgrade their systems without changing board layouts.

The PSD Series converters is comprised of 16 models, with power ratings of 1.5 W, 3 W, 6 W and 10 W; each power rating can be supplied with a choice of 5 V, 12 V, 24 V and 48 V nominal input voltages, as well as an adjustable output of ±12 to ±15 V. The dual output can also be configured as a 24 V or 30 V single output. The four compact package sizes measure from 0.79 in x 0.63 in x 0.31 in (1.5 W models) to 1.61 in x 1.02 in x 0.31 in (10 W models). A ventilated case minimizes the units’ weight –- just 4 g for the 1.5 W models and 14 g for the 10 W models.

The PSD Series units operate from -40 °C to +85 °C full load with airflow of 1 m/sec. Input-to-output isolation is 500 Vac. In addition to being RoHS-compliant, all models conform to UL60950-1, CSA 60950-1 and EN60950-1 standards. The PSD Series is available now, with prices starting at $17.25 in single-unit quantities.
