The Los Angeles City Council (Los Angeles, CA) has approved one of the largest purchases of renewable green power in the nation. Henceforth, a full ten percent of the city government's electricity purchases will go toward new, clean energy sources. This purchase will amount to 50 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually.
With previous commitments from LA World Airports and the city's water system, the total city government purchase will be more than 70 million kilowatt-hours of new green energy. The city's government uses about 500 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually.
“The beauty of green power is its ability to use naturally-occurring renewable sources for energy production. We are very proud that LA will lead the state in energy conservation and, while doing so, will free ourselves from dependence on fossil fuels," commented Ruth Galanter, president pro tem of the LA City Council.
