Kollmorgen Releases GoldLine DDR Brushless Servomotor

February 13, 2000 by Jeff Shepard

Kollmorgen (Radford, VA) recently announced the release of a new motor, the Kollmorgen GoldLine DDR (Direct Drive Rotary) brushless servomotor. The motor has peak torque ratings from 12.5lb. ft. to 225.0lb. ft. Frame sizes are available from 6.9 inches to 11.2 inches. According to Kollmorgen, typical applications for the device are rotary tables, robots and semiconductor processing equipment.

The company claims a key advantage of the Kollmorgen GoldLine DDR motor is that it eliminates mechanical parts (such as belts/pulleys and gearboxes) and the backlash and compliance that is associated with these transmissions. The direct drive motor is designed to mount directly on the machine and the motor provides a large diameter hollow shaft for fluid, pneumatic or electrical feed-throughs.

"Direct drive technology is now becoming a new alternative for many industrial applications," said Tom England, Kollmorgen's senior product line manager. "The Kollmorgen GoldLine DDR Series is a true gearbox/belt replacement because of its combination of high torque and high speed at a competitive price and delivery."
