Isolated DC-DC Converters for RF Power Amplifier Applications

November 19, 2018 by Paul Shepard

Delta Electronics, Inc. has introduced a new series of isolated dc-dc converters for radio frequency (RF) power amplifier (PA) applications. The series includes two standard eighth bricks (32V and 50V output voltage) with output power up to 300W, and a 700W output power standard half-brick with output voltage of 28V.

All of the converters support a wide input voltage of 36V to 75V and wide output voltage adjustment range (from +10% to -50%). The wide output voltage adjustment range is especially useful and not limited for PA efficiency optimization, it can also cover other industrial applications like 24V bus voltage.

The digital pwm controller in the converter is used to support output voltage feedback, pwm signal generation, fault protection, output voltage trim, on/off control and PMBus™ communications, and so on. With the digital control, many design and application flexibility, advanced performance, and reliability are obtained.

With optimized component placement and innovative design topologies, the new series of dc-dc converters delivers not only outstanding electrical and thermal performance but possesses industry leading efficiencies which translate into more board space at less cost for our customer's space constrained and cost-sensitive applications.

The series comes with a host of industry-standard features insures that this unit will reliably perform in the harshest environments of telecom and industrial applications. All modules are fully protected against abnormal input/output voltage, current, and temperature conditions. Optional baseplate and heatsink is also available for more extreme thermal requirements, such as in fan-less application of RRH (Remote Radio Head).

Safety certifications include IEC/EN/UL/CSA 60950-1 & 62368-1 be recognized.
