IRC Intros OAR Series Current-Sense Resistors

March 16, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

The Wirewound and Film Technologies Division of IRC Inc. (Boone, NC) announced its OAR Series of open-air, through-hole, current-sense resistors with a high power rating of up to 5 W at 85 °C. The devices consist of a custom-engineered resistive element welded to copper leads with integral stand-offs from the PC board. The OAR Series are suitable for automotive applications, increasing usage of small electric motors for motion control and energy monitoring.

The OAR Series resistors are rated for 1 W, 3 W or 5 W at 85 °C, with resistance values from 0.1 Ohm to 0.005 Ohm, with tolerances down to ±1 percent. They feature TCRs as low as +20 ppm/°C and inductance values in the single-digit nanoHenry range. The operating temperature range is from –40 °C to +125 °C. IRC will also produce OAR Series resistors to customer requirements outside these standard specifications.

Typical pricing for the OAR Series resistors ranges from $0.16 to $0.25 based on automotive industry volumes. Lead-times are from stock to eight weeks.
