IRC Introduces Power Wirewound and Film Resistors Rated Up to 275°C

April 02, 2007 by Jeff Shepard

TT electronics IRC Wire and Film Technologies Division now offers both power wirewound and film resistors for high volume applications. Designated the CAW (wirewound) and CAF (film) Series, both resistor types are available for operation at temperatures up to 275°C.

"We anticipate these power wirewound and film resistors to gain wide acceptance with contract manufacturers and other high volume users for a wide range of general purpose applications," said David Winkler, Product Manager for IRC’s Wire and Film Technologies Division. "Both types of resistors are enclosed in a flameproof ceramic case with inorganic fill materials, which makes them ideal for operation in extreme temperatures, such as those found in industrial and appliance applications."

Additional applications for the CAW and CAF Series resistors include power electronics circuits, voltage dividers, power supplies, and motor controllers. Both the CAW and CAF Series axial lead resistors feature power ratings of 2 to 10W. The CAW Series wirewound device offers a resistance range from 0.1 to 1.2KΩ, while the CAF Series film resistors have a resistance range of 28 to 200KΩ; standard tolerances for both devices are ±5% and ±10%, with TCRs of ±400ppm/°C at less than 20Ω and ±350ppm/°C at 20Ω and above. Operating temperature range is -55 to +275°C. IRC will also produce devices outside these specifications to meet customer requirements.

Typical pricing for the CAW and CAF Series resistors is $ .065 each for the 5-watt devices and $.15 each for the 10W devices in quantities of 10,000. Lead time is from stock to 8 weeks weeks.
