IR Unveils New CNQ Series of Schottky Diodes

March 19, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

International Rectifier Corp. (IR, El Segundo, CA) introduced its new family of 15V, 30V, 45V and 100V high-current schottky diodes rated at 110A in surface-mount and through-hole D-61 packages. The new CNQ Series devices offer over 35 percent higher current-carrying capability than IR's previous-generation devices in the same package, and over a 100 percent increase in current density over competing devices in SOT-227- or TO-247-type packages.

The new diodes are suitable for high-power switch-mode power supplies (SMPS) for telecom/datacom systems; servers; workstations; mainframes; output rectification in SMPS systems; and OR-ing, (15V diodes for 5V, 3.3V and 1.8V output converters and 100V devices for 48V output converters) in N+1 redundant power supply systems. The diodes come in an improved D-61 package with a thicker baseplate and heavy-duty leads for increased current-handling capability. Improved bonding techniques have lowered the forward-voltage drop by up to 20 percent, compared to IR's previous-generation devices, reducing conduction losses while improving thermal performance.

The new diodes will be available in April 2002. Pricing begins at $6.90 each in 10,000-piece quantities for the 115CNQ015A.
