IR Unveils IRU3046/IRU3048 PWM Controller ICs

July 14, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

International Rectifier Corp. (IR, El Segundo, CA) introduced the IRU3046 and IRU3048 dual-synchronous PWM controller ICs with an integrated LDO controller. The IRU3046 has current-sharing capability and offers a versatile, high-performance solution for buck converters up to 20A. The smaller IRU3048 is a cost-effective compact solution for multiple-output power supplies. Both devices are suitable for power-management circuits for graphics cards, DDR memory, hard disk drives, or any multiple output on-board dc/dc converter.

The IRU3046 can be configured to work in two independent output supplies: single-output, two-phase operation from a single supply; and single-output with programmable current sharing from two supplies. The IRU3046 offers a programmable operating frequency up to 400kHz and features an uncommitted error amplifier for voltage-tracking applications, input-supply monitoring to eliminate voltage-sequencing problems, programmable output voltages, soft-start control, short-circuit protection, and power-good signal for all outputs. The IRU3048 operates at a fixed frequency of 200kHz and is configured for two independent synchronous outputs in addition to the linear output provided by the LDO.

The IRU3046 comes in a 24-pin TSSOP package (IRU3046CF). The IRU3048 comes in a 16-pin plastic SOIC (IRU3048CS) or TSSOP-16 (IRU3048CF) package, and provides a cost-effective, compact solution for triple-output requirements. The IRU3046 and IRU3048 are now available for sampling. Pricing in 10,000-unit quantities starts at $1.06 each for the IRU3048CS.
