IR Debuts New M Series IGBT/FRED Co-Pack Devices

August 16, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

International Rectifier (IR, El Segundo, CA) introduced the new M Series family of 600V short-circuit-rated IGBT/FRED co-pack devices for sub-2HP industrial and appliance motor drives.

The new devices offer 18 percent lower saturation voltage, or VCE(on), than previous generation short-circuit-rated devices, and have the lowest VCE(on) for short-circuit-rated co-pack IGBTs on the market. The lower saturation voltage reduces conduction losses by up to 25 percent at 50 percent duty-cycle operating conditions, allowing designers to reduce heatsink size to achieve more compact and cost-effective designs.

<pThe M Series IGBTs, IRG4BC15MD, IRG4BC20MD and IRG4BC20MD-S, offer a VCE(on) as low as 1.85V at 100 degrees C and have a 10µs short-circuit capability at full 15V gate drive (VGE) input. The new M Series devices are optimized to minimizing switching losses in the 4kHz to 10kHz operating-frequency range.

The new co-pack IGBTs are available now. Pricing for the new devices begins at $1.10 each in 10,000-unit quantities.
