February 04, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

International Rectifier Corp. (IR, El Segundo, CA) and Xilinx Inc. announced the immediate availability of the Accelerator motor control design platform, based on the low-cost Xilinx Spartan-IIE FPGA and International Rectifier motion control mixed signal chip set. The Accelerator platform provides a low-cost, reconfigurable signal processing architecture using parallel processing and soft peripherals that is suitable for automotive drivetrain controls, automated assembly, precision material handling and more.

"We are very excited to be working with Xilinx, the industry leader in high-performance, reprogrammable, digital signal, processing chips," said David Tam, vice president of applications engineering and systems architecture at International Rectifier. "The Spartan-IIE FPGA provides us with the high-performance, flexible DSP functions needed to be able to deliver a solution that meets the needs of motor control designers."

The Accelerator design platform is available now. Pricing for the development system is $9,500 per unit. The part number is IRACS201, which includes all hardware for a 1.5kW servo amp, pre-loaded code into XC18V02 EEPROM targeted for the Spartan IIE-300, and Windows-based configuration software called ServoDesigner.
