Intersil Unveils ISL6424/ISL6425 LNB Regulators/Control ICs

February 24, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

Intersil Corp. (Milpitas, CA) announced two new highly integrated solutions for providing power and control signals from advanced set-top box (STB) units to the satellite dish low-noise block (LNB) down converter. The ISL6424 is designed for supplying power and control signals from STB modules to the LNBs of two antenna ports, while the ISL6425 performs the same functions as the ISL6424, but for the LNB of only one antenna port. Both devices are designed for compliance with 2.5 V/3.3 V logic and are pin-to-pin compatible.

The ISL6424 and ISL6425 feature integrated dc-dc converter and I(2)C interface, switch-mode power converter for lowest dissipation, boost PWMs with greater than 92% efficiency, selectable 13 V or 18 V outputs, digital cable length compensation (1 V), full 3.3 V/5 V operation up to 400 kHz, external pin(s) select 13 V/18 V option, and built-in tone oscillator factory trimmed to 22 kHz.

The ISL6424 and the ISL6425 are available now in standard lead and lead-free finish, in a 5 mm x 5 mm, 32-lead, QFN package. The ISL6424 is also available in a 28-lead EPSOIC package. Pricing in 10,000-unit quantities is $2.25 for each ISL6424 IC and $1.15 per IC for the ISL6425.
