Intersil Unveils ISL6413 Triple Regulator IC

November 30, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

Intersil Corp. (Milpitas, CA) announced the ISL6413 triple regulator IC to power wireless LAN chip sets. The new power IC is designed to offer high efficiency, low cost and reduced parts count, along with reduced board space. The ISL6413 includes one power-saving, high-efficiency, pulse-width modulator; two low-noise, low-dropout (LDO) linear regulators; and a reset for the baseband processor/media access controller.

The ISL6413 is suitable for wireless LAN products across the board, including embedded wireless solutions in access points, notebook PCs, PDAs and smart phones, as well as plug-in cards of ever-decreasing form factor. The new power IC features a small, thermally efficient, low-profile, 4mm x 4mm, quad flat no-lead package designed to rapidly transfer heat to the PC board and away from the IC. The IC reduces current consumption from a 3.3V supply by as much as 100mA when compared to an LDO power solution. In addition, a reset function and extensive circuit protection functions are built in.

The ISL6413 is available now. The price in 100-unit to 999-unit quantities is $2 for each IC. The ICs are available on tape and reel.
