Intersil Launches ISL6406/ISL6426 Power Controllers

December 08, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

Intersil Corp. (Irvine, CA) announced the new ISL6406 and ISL6426 synchronous buck power controllers that feature an adjustable 100kHz to 700kHz switching frequency range and are capable of being synchronized with an external clock or other distributed dc converters in a system. The ISL6406's output voltage is settable from 0.8V to 3.3V and the ISL6426 output voltage is fixed at 1.8V. The ISL6406 and ISL6426 are suitable for dc/dc modules, network access devices and other applications requiring high efficiency.

The ISL6406 and ISL6426 are efficient, adjustable-frequency, synchronous-buck, switching regulators that operate from a single 3.3V or 5V supply rail. Both regulators are optimized for generating lower voltages for a variety of distributed dc/dc applications, including those in which regulator operating frequency synchronization is required. Typical power supply efficiencies greater than 92 percent can be achieved helping to eliminate the need for a heatsink in standard-buck or linear-regulating converters. The combination of features and the available miniature 4mm x 4mm, quad-flat no-lead (QFN) packaging, enables the design of a high-performance power supply in a small board area.

The ISL6406 and ISL6426 are available now. Pricing for hundred-unit quantities is $1.48

(ISL6406CB), $1.58 (ISL6406IB), $1.48 (ISL6406CR), $1.58 (ISL6406IR), $1.58 (ISL6406CV), $1.62 (ISL6406IV), $1.48 (ISL6426CB), $1.58 (ISL6426IB), $1.48 (ISL6426CR), $1.58 (ISL6426IR), $1.58 (ISL6426CV) and $1.62 (ISL6426IV).
