International Resistive Introduces MM Series of Cylindrical Resistors

January 22, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

International Resistive Co. Inc. (IRC, Boone, NC) is now offering low-profile surface-mount cylindrical resistors with lead times as low as four weeks. Designated the MM Series, these resistors provide drop-in replacements for Monitored End-Point Load Forecasting (MELF) devices.

The MM Series utilizes IRC's Metal Glaze thick film-resistive element fired onto a ceramic core with capless solder terminations. IRC maintains that this produces a rugged cylindrical resistor with enhanced surge handling capabilities, heat dissipation and solderability. IRC further claims that this technology also features high thermal and mechanical stability. It is suitable for use in automotive, computer, instrumentation, telecommunication and other industrial electronics applications.

Available in sizes MMA0204 (1206), MMB0207 (2512) and MMC0310 (3610), the MM Series offers power ratings from 0.25W to 2W and a resistance range of 0.1 ohms to 2.2 Megohms. The series has tolerances down to 0.5 percent and TCRs down to ±50ppm/degree C. Operating temperatures range from -55 degrees C to 150 degrees C.

“The IRC MM Series devices are a clear solution for those long leadtime MELF-type products," stated IRC sales and marketing director, Pierre LaVignette. “We can provide volume quantities of these highly-reliable cylindrical resistors in typically four to six weeks from order. We provide drop-in replacements for virtually all of our competitors' MELF-type parts, and they are fully compatible with high-speed automated assembly equipment."
