International Rectifier Introduces New IRF5801, IRF5802, IRF7464 and IRF7465 MOSFETs

July 25, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

International Rectifier (IR, El Segundo, CA) has expanded its family of SOIC-packaged HEXFET power MOSFETs to address the lowest power ranges found in back-plane dc/dc converters in the telecommunications and datacommunications industries. The new MOSFETs deliver currents of less than 2A at the 150V and 200V breakdown-voltage ratings required by isolated-converter topologies. The expanded range includes a 150V MOSFET in a TSOP-6 package.

The new IRF5802 MOSFET features an ultra-low gate charge and is suitable for use in modules delivering 5W to 10W of output at operating frequencies up to 1MHz. The SO-8-packaged IRF7465 MOSFET has a lower Rds(on) and lower gate charge, and is suitable for 10W to 20W modules operating at frequencies up to 500kHz. For modules requring 200V MOSFETs, the IRF5801 (TSOP-6) and IRF7464 (SO-8) are suitable for the 10W to 20W range.

IR's marketing manager for the dc/dc sector's network and communications products, Jorge Llorens, stated, "IR's silicon know-how enables the new SOIC HEXFET power MOSFETs to deliver the best cost-to-performance value in telecommunications and datacommunications applications. IR is continuing to expand its MOSFET family to address all the application needs of dc/dc converters, from the smallest power supplies delivering 10W and below, to the highest half- and quarter-brick modules delivering up to 500W."

Samples and production volumes of the new MOSFETs are currently available. Pricing begins at $0.14 each in 10,000-unit quantities.
