International Rectifier Introduces New Hermetically Sealed Power MOSFETs

November 13, 2000 by Jeff Shepard

International Rectifier (IR, El Segundo, CA) has introduced a new family of hermetically sealed, high-reliability HEXFET power MOSFETs. These hermetically sealed power devices are designed for applications operating in harsh conditions, such as high humidity or moisture, temperature, or vacuum. Step-down dc/dc power conversion decreases a single, high-voltage main power supply line to lower voltages used by various subsystems.

The new product line includes 30V, 55V, 100V and 150V devices. The 30V devices are targeted for 1.8V and lower output dc/dc converters. Meanwhile, the 55V devices are targeted for 3.3V and 5V dc/dc converters. Lastly, the 100V and 150V devices are used for 28V to 100V output subsystems.

Richard Southwell, IR's hi-rel components group marketing manager, stated, "IR's proven fabrication technology delivers as much as 65 percent better device on-resistance than previous devices, which contributes to higher power-system efficiency." He added, "Device on-resistance is one of the main performance parameters for power MOSFETs. The new devices extend our product line to provide designers with freedom of choice, balancing performance, power density, circuit footprint and cost."

The new MOSFETs are housed in industry-standard TO-257, TO-254, SMD-0.5, SMD-1, D2 and D3 packages. Pricing begins at $15.39 each in 500-unit quantities.
