International Rectifier Introduces 24 HEXFET Power MOSFETs

September 07, 2000 by Jeff Shepard

International Rectifier (El Segundo, CA) introduced 24 hermetically sealed, high-reliability HEXFET power MOSFETs for step-down dc/dc power-conversion systems in satellite launch vehicles, missiles, down-hole oil drilling and undersea broad-band communications equipment. According to the company, the devices are toughened to survive high-humidity temperature conditions or vacuum, and this fabrication technology delivers as much as 65 percent better device on-resistance than previous devices, contributing to higher system efficiency.

The new product line includes 30V, 55V, 100V and 150V devices, with 30V devices targeted for 1.8V and lower output dc/dc converters, 55V devices used in 3.3V and 5V dc/dc converters, and the 100V and 150V products used for 28V to 100V output subsystems.

"Device on-resistance is one of the main performance parameters for power MOSFETs. The new devices extend our product line to provide designers freedom of choice, balancing performance, power density, circuit footprint and cost," said Richard Southwell, International Rectifier's High-Reliability Components Group marketing manager.

The MOSFETs are housed in TO-257, TO-254, SMD-0.5, SMD-1, and D2 and D3 packages, and all MOSFETs will be available as commercial off-the-shelf and as qualified product list products. Pricing begins at $15.39 each in 500-unit quantities that are now available.
