International Rectifier and Ideas Electronics Develop New Line of Ballasts

February 13, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

International Rectifier (IR, El Segundo, CA) and Ideas Electronics (Singapore), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Enersave Holdings Ltd., recently collaborated to develop a new line of electronic ballasts (ECGs), the Multi-Lamp ECGs. Available in single, twin and dimming versions, the new ECGs allow one ballast to be deployed on lamps with different wattages. Ideas Electronics claims that the ballasts lower energy consumption, and say that they require no starter or condenser.

Features of the Multi-Lamp ECGs include preheating, surge protection up to 300V and automatic shutdown of power supply to defective lamps. Applications include office or industrial lighting, as well as direct and indirect lighting. The ballasts hold ENEC, VDE and PSB compliances. They are also CE-marked, and comply with VDE 0876/EN 55015 radio interference suppression requirements, as well as the mains harmonics of IEC 928, IEC 929 and EN 61000-3-2.
