Suzlon Energy Limited announced that it would invest $60 million in stepping up a wind turbine generator manufacturing facility in China. Suzlon Energy (Tianjin) Limited, the Chinese subsidiary of the Pune-headquartered company, will manufacture wind turbine generator and major components, including rotor blades, generators, nacelles and control panels.
The facility, designed to meet international specifications, will also include a world-class technology and design center, said a company statement. The Chinese facility is scheduled to commence production in the second quarter of the fiscal year beginning April 1, 2006, according to a statement from Tulsi Tanti, chairperson and managing director of Suzlon Energy Ltd.
According to the Suzlon statement, China is making aggressive efforts to promote renewable energy sources, raising targets to produce 5,000 MW by 2010 and 30,000 MW by 2020, said the statement. These targets are expected to boost energy from renewable sources up to 10 percent of total consumption by 2020.
Suzlon Energy has operations in Australia, China, European Union, India, South Korea and the US. It operates research and development centers in the Netherlands and Germany to leverage the region's leadership in wind power.
