Hyundai Bus to Showcase Enova Hybrid Drive System

March 26, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

Hyundai Motor Co. (Korea) will feature hybrid drive systems developed by Enova Systems (Torrance, CA) in its hybrid transit vehicles. Enova manufactured the drive systems as a result of the two companies' joint hybrid-development program.

The series hybrid drive system is an Enova Panther Genset, which consists of a 50kW electric motor, a motor controller and a diesel engine meeting stringent Euro 3 emission specifications. The electric motor and controller are part of Enova's complete line of drive systems, comprising 30kW, 60kW, 90kW, 120kW and 240kW electric and hybrid-electric systems.

"Hyundai Motor Company and Enova are strategic partners in developing electric, hybrid and fuel cell vehicles for the global market. Hyundai's choice of Enova's hybrid drive system for their buses is a continuing confirmation of the reliability and robustness of our drive systems. Hyundai's purchase recognizes Enova's position as a major provider of hybrid drive systems in the midsize transit market," said Carl Perry, president and CEO.
