Hybrid Capacitors offer Higher Voltage and Lower Self Discharge

January 20, 2020 by Paul Shepard

VINATech has launched a new family of 3.8-Volt cost effective, hybrid lithium capacitors, with ultra-low leakage current to support the existing VLC range. Capacitances range from 100F to 250F.

The VPC series, an environmentally friendly hybrid lithium capacitor family, has been developed to reduce costs against more expensive pulse battery technologies whilst offering significantly lower ESR, wider temperature ranges (up to 85 degrees C) and higher discharge currents from similar sizes and comparable battery based technology.

Three models have been launched:

  • The 100 Farad VEL10303R8107G with an ESR of 90mΩ, a continuous current rating of 0.5A (2A of pulse current for 1 sec.) in a 10mm diameter x 30mm high package.
  • The 150 Farad VEL13253R8157G with an ESR of 50mΩ, a continuous current rating of 1.0A (4A of pulse current for 1 sec.) in a 12.5mm diameter x 25mm high package.
  • The 250 Farad VEL13353R8257G with an ESR of 40mΩ, a continuous current rating of 2.0A (5A of pulse current for 1 sec.) in a 12.5mm diameter x 35mm high package.

EDLC Technology is being continually being developed and enhanced by VINATech's R&D Team and this has led to new VPC series has been developed utilizing standardized EDLC production processes to reduce the cost effect of this advanced technology.

The major attributes of the VPC series is certainly the ultra low Leakage current and low ESR characteristics which makes them a candidate for cost effective pulse management and to support projects where power budgets are critical such as long term battery based primary powered products such as remote metering, gas & water meters plus asset tracking devices and automotive applications such as e-call.

The first tranche of this new RoHS and REACH compliant pulse capacitors will see 1030, 1325 and 1335 sizes introduced with added benefits of considerable size reductions compared to the compatible battery technologies. The next generation will be smaller sized and suitable for a wider range of IoT applications.
