High-Accuracy, Large Aperture Current Transducer for Measuring up to 1200Arms and 1500Adc

February 01, 2019 by Scott McMahan

Danisense announced the DM1200, a high-accuracy current transducer capable of measuring signals up to 1200Arms and 1500Adc. The transducer specifically targets the EV and HEV markets, which require higher power converters that can be rapidly-charged. The DM1200 also features a large, 45mm diameter aperture that makes testing easier and more cost-effectively because it allows frequent installation and replacement of the system under test without needing to remove the primary cable connector.

The DM1200 specifically targets the EV and HEV markets which demand higher power converters that can be rapidly-charged. It features a large, 45mm diameter aperture which makes testing easier and more cost-effective because frequent system installation and replacement under test can be performed without having to remove the primary cable connector.

Potential applications for the current transducer include power measurement and power analysis, stable power supplies, MPS for particles accelerators, gradient amplifiers for MRI devices, precision drives, battery testing and evaluation systems, and current calibration.

Like all Danisense current sensors, the DM1200 is based on a closed loop system that is powered by a fluxgate as the magnetic field detector. This zero-flux technology gives the DM1200 excellent linearity of <1ppm with a very low offset of 12ppm and very low amplitude and phase shifts. These parameters are critical for the accurate measurement of the converter's efficiency because they cause measurement errors.

Henrik Elbaek, CEO, Danisense A/S commented, "The E-mobility industry is a game-changer for power converter test and measurement tools. The increase in power combined with higher switching frequencies means that we must deliver higher performance, rugged and very accurate products, and the DM1200 is our first product to be specifically designed to meet all these requirements.

The DM1200 also offers a high bandwidth of up to 300kHz, to match increased switching speeds, especially of GaN and SiC devices. A metal body shields against EMC disturbances from these high-frequency signals. Horizontal and vertical mounting options are included to provide flexibility for the test bench mechanical design.
