HD Systems Premiers the SHF-14-2H Miniature Hollow-Shaft Gear Unit

March 29, 2000 by Jeff Shepard

HD Systems Inc. announced the SHF-14-2H miniature hollow-shaft gear units. Targeted for use in machine tools, robotics and automation applications, these units feature a large through-hole that enables the design engineer to pass shafts, wire bundles or other components directly through the center of the gearing.

This unit offers a compact design with an integral cross-roller bearing for rigid support of the output flange. This design is both axially shorter and lower in weight, yet provides a significantly increased torque capacity when compared with conventional harmonic drive gearing. These units measure 53mm in length and 74mm in diameter, and provide a hollow-shaft identification of 14mm. Rated output torque of 69in-lbs, and a momentary peak torque of 478in-lbs can be achieved. Gear reduction ratios of 50:1 through 100:1 are available in a single stage.
