Yuasa Inc. (Reading, PA) recently announced that it has upgraded its Independence DDS VRLA batteries with a new rack. According to Yuasa, the rack is designed to enable faster, simpler and less expensive installation. The company claims the DDS batteries are ideal for use in telecommunications, UPS, utility and switchgear applications. The rack is designed with pieces that fit together in pre-drilled and pre-punched holes, enabling flexible configuration and installation of cells according to available space in the battery room, from two to six cells wide and two to 12 cells high. The rack is available with a top cover/power transition kit that is designed to allow for mounting of additional equipment or of standard size racks on top of the existing rack to maximum available space. The rack also incorporates SAE1010 steel sleeves for each battery, which provide the cells with uniform compression and protection during shipment. The DDS VRLA batteries have 1997 UBC Zone 4 approval, and Yuasa also offers seismic upgrade kits to accommodate above-grade installations. The batteries are available in voltages from 24V, 48V, 240V, 480V, or in unique voltages to meet specific needs. The batteries are designed to deliver from 120Ah to 8,000Ah and require no watering, periodic equalization, special ventilation or spill containment systems. Pricing for the DDS 40-07 starts at $240 per cell.
