GM Daewoo to Join General Motors’ Fuel Cell Project

November 16, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

GM Daewoo Auto and Technology Co. (Busan, South Korea), the the third-largest automaker in South Korea, announced plans to participate in a hydrogen fuel cell project being proposed by its parent company General Motors Corp. (GM, Detroit, MI). GM Daewoo will conduct a feasibility study on whether it can apply GM's hydrogen fuel cell technology to its vehicles. The company's goal is to be a leader in South Korea in the development of environmentally friendly cars through the cooperation with GM.

The automaker will seek to apply GM's technology to the condition of the country's roads, and then take part in technical developments related to hydrogen-powered fuel cell cars. GM Daewoo aims to put its own hydrogen fuel cell car on the South Korean market, timed with GM's planned commercialization of hydrogen vehicles in 2010.
