General Semiconductor Offers New Family of Schottky Rectifiers

April 30, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

General Semiconductor Inc. (Melville, NY) has introduced a new family of Schottky rectifiers that are optimized to perform as OR-ing diodes. The SBL20L15, SBLB20L15 and SBLF20L15 have forward current ratings of 20A, while the SBL40L15PT is a

dual common-cathode device rated at 40A. The SBL20L15, SBLB20L15, SBLF20L15 and SBL40L15PT are packaged in a TO-220, surface-mount TO-263, isolated TO-220 and high-power TO-247, respectively.

General Semiconductor claims that the primary benefit of these devices are low power dissipation due to the fast switching speed of the Schottky junction coupled with a forward voltage drop of 0.33V at rated current and operating temperature. The reverse breakdown voltage of 15V is suitable for use in the OR-ing function of switch-mode power supplies with output voltages of 3.3, 5 and 12Vdc. All General Semiconductor Schottky rectifiers have an ion-implanted guard-ring for over-voltage protection.

In 10,000-piece quantities, pricing for the SBL20L15 is $0.58; the SBLB20L15 is $0.62; the SBLF20L15 is $0.66 and the SBL40L15PT is $1.10.
